A 2-day Elders Gathering for 5 Elders per Treaty Area, as well as the 3 Treaty Area Elders Advisors was held in Canmore near Stoney Nation in Treaty 7 territory on August 15 - 16, 2013. The Elders Gathering was held to launch the strategy development in a traditional manner and to validate data and planning through ceremony. The Elders also had an opportunity to receive education about prescription drug misuse and provided insight into the issue within First Nations communities. We thank all the participating Elders for their wisdom and ceremony, and their outstanding contributions to this process! We look forward to building on the momentum they created at the onsite of the project, and to include them in an ongoing capacity. |
